E. Coli, Mononucleosis, Influenza, Meningitis, Pneumonia and Shingles (herpes zoster) are the most common infectious diseases.
Regarding E. Coli, Dr. Stacey Baker, Infectious Disease Physician with Baptist Health South Florida, explains people may get it from contaminated food products. Mononucleosis is also called the kissing disease because it can be easily passed through oral secretions and it’s very common in teens and young people.
Influenza alarms people of all ages. Meningitis can be caused by both, bacteria and viruses. It can be very concerning when it happens, the specialist says.

Health & Medicine on Khan Academy: No organ quite symbolizes love like the heart. One reason may be that your heart helps you live, by moving ~5 liters (1.3 gallons) of blood through almost 100,000 kilometers (62,000 miles) of blood vessels every single minute! It has to do this all day, everyday, without ever taking a vacation! Now that is true love. Learn about how the heart works, how blood flows through the heart, where the blood goes after it leaves the heart, and what your heart is doing when it makes the sound “Lub Dub.”

diseases Tags: 10.1, Chapter, Cholera, diseases, Infectious, MalariaNo Comments »
Infectious diseases have ravaged the globe for centuries and some of them have led to the discovery of new medicines, vaccines and in some cases, preventive measures to keep people healthy. In this video, I focus on the transmission and causative agents of cholera and malaria. I also share some of the measures that have been put in place to address these diseases.
Corrective note: Vibrio cholerae acts on the wall of the small intestine and releases its toxins there.
What is a drug? | Health | Biology | FuseSchool
You may have already watched our video about pharmacology and drugs, but if not, let’s recap. What is a drug? A drug is a substance that when released into the body will cause an effect.
Some are legal, some are illegal and some are prescribed by doctors to treat illnesses. Whether a drug is legal or not, or can be bought without a prescription, varies by country. Recreational drugs are substances that people choose to take, like for example nicotine (in tobacco), alcohol, or coca leaves in the Andes. In this video, you are going to learn about two different types of drugs and their effects on the body.
