The end of Influenza B? How it could impact the effectiveness of flu vaccines

cures No Comments »

Influenza B does not have an animal reservoir, which means it does not live in animals and with no reported cases in humans, there’s a theory that it could go extinct and increase the flu shot’s effectiveness.

What Happened: Dr. Jay Bhattacharya on 19 Months of COVID

Recorded on October 13, 2021

From the very beginning of the COVID-19 crisis, Dr. Jay Bhattacharya has been on the front lines of analyzing, studying, and even personally fighting the pandemic. In this wide-ranging interview, Dr. Bhattacharya takes us through how it started, how it spread throughout the world, the efficacy of lockdowns, the development and distribution of the vaccines, and the rise of the Delta variant. He delves into what we got right, what we got wrong, and what we got really wrong. Finally, Dr. Bhattacharya looks to the future and how we will learn to live with COVID rather than trying to extinguish it, and how we might be prepared to deal with another inevitable pandemic that we know will arrive at some point.

The real reason American health care is so expensive

Americans don’t drive up the price by consuming more health care. They don’t visit the doctor more than other developed countries:
http://international.commonwealthfund.org/stats/annual_physician_visits/

But the price we pay for that visit – for a procedure – it costs way more:
http://static1.squarespace.com/static/518a3cfee4b0a77d03a62c98/t/57d3ca9529687f1a257e9e26/1473497751062/2015+Comparative+Price+Report+09.09.16.pdf

The price you pay for the same procedure, at the same hospital, may vary enormously depending on what kind of health insurance you have in the US.

That’s because of bargaining power. Government programs, like Medicare and Medicaid, can ask for a lower price from health service providers because they have the numbers: the hospital has to comply or else risk losing the business of millions of Americans.

There are dozens of private health insurance providers in the United States and they each need to bargain for prices with hospitals and doctors. The numbers of people private insurances represent are much less than the government programs. That means a higher price when you go to the doctor or fill a prescription.

Uninsured individuals have the least bargaining power. Without any insurance, you will pay the highest price.

Ex-Pharma Sales Reps Speaks Out – Pharma Not in Business of Health, Healing, Cures, Wellness.

Gwen Olsen spent fifteen years as a pharmaceutical sales rep working for such healthcare giants as Johnson & Johnson, Bristol-Myers Squibb, and Abbott Laboratories. She enjoyed a successful, fast-paced career until several conscious-altering experiences began awakening her to the dangers lurking in every American medicine cabinet. Her most poignant lessons, however, came as both victim and survivor of life-threatening adverse drug reactions. After leaving pharmaceutical sales in 2000, Gwen worked in the natural foods industry first as an Account Manager for Nature’s Way, and then as a Regional Sales Manager for Gaia Herbs. She is currently a writer, speaker, and natural health consultant.

The United States health care system is killing Americans at an alarming rate, even though we spend over fifteen percent of the Gross National Product (GNP) on health care. According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, our health care outcomes ranked only fifteenth among twenty-five industrialized nations worldwide. Adverse effects from prescription drugs have become the third-leading killer of Americans. Only heart disease and cancer claim more lives. We trust our doctors to inform us and our government to protect us from medical malfeasance that may put profits ahead of consumer health and safety. But the fine line walked by the FDA between the interests of the pharmaceutical manufacturers and the American public has continually been crossed. The result is the unleashing of an unprecedented number of lethal drugs on the U.S. market!

Gwen Olsen learned firsthand the danger that lurks in every American’s medicine cabinet, working in the pharmaceutical industry. But her most poignant education would come as a victim and, ultimately, as a survivor.

Wellness 101 Show – What is the Cures Act

cures No Comments »

Hey Guys. Mr. Wellness here. And today we’re gonna talk about the Cures Act. I know… the what?!?! We usually don’t get into government policy here but this is really important and it’s something you should know because it affects how you access your personal health information.

The Cures Act was originally signed into law in 2016 and it officially went into effect in November 2020. Basically, the Cures Act was designed to empower you with easy and unrestricted access to your personal health information by enabling you to get this information on apps and smart devices like your phone.

The biggest change that you may notice is you now have immediate access to information you did not have before – specifically your doctors’ clinical notes and test and study results. That’s right, your doctors’ notes, study and test results, your medical history, imaging results, procedure and progress notes… they’re all there for you. Isn’t that great?!

Maybe, but maybe not. Don’t forget, with great power comes great responsibility. What I’m saying is –don’t run to Google and start searching. Just don’t. I know you did it back when the internet was new but that pain in your big toe? It wasn’t Ebola.

So just like back then, you’re going to have to figure out how to appropriately understand and use the information now at your fingertips and how to discuss it with your doctor. And your doctor is going to have to figure out the best way to educate you and involve you more in care decisions.

Ultimately, the Cures Act is intended to empower you with information and encourage timely and effective conversation between you and your doctors. So remember… slow down, process the information you now have access to, talk with your doctors and together, you and your doctor can find the best way to move forward with your care.

Don’t forget to smash that like button and subscribe to our YouTube Channel for more Wellness 101!

Vitamin B therapy dangerous for diabetics with kidney disease

diseases No Comments »

Dr. David Spence, director of Robarts Research Institutes Stroke Prevention and Atherosclerosis Research Centre, is encouraging people with diabetes taking high doses of B vitamins to stop their treatment because it increases risks for heart attacks or strokes. These surprising results are published in a study in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

Causes of Vitamin B12 Deficiency | In-Depth Overview including Medications, Diseases & Fish Tapeworm

Lesson on Vitamin B12 Deficiency Causes, including dietary intake issues, medication use, gastrointestinal disease (ex. crohn’s disease, celiac disease), GI infections, pancreatic disease and autoimmune conditions (ex. pernicious anemia). Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) is essential in our diet as we are not able to synthesize it ourselves, and it is necessary for healthy red blood cell production, DNA synthesis and central nervous system functioning. Vitamin b12 deficiency can be due to a variety of causes within 2 major categories: reduced dietary intake and compromised absorption. Compromised absorption entails a wide variety of causes including certain medications, and issues within the gastrointestinal tract.

In this lesson, we discuss a detailed overview of causes of Vitamin b12 deficiency, including discussing pernicious anemia, crohn’s disease, celiac disease and We also discuss the physiology of normal B12 metabolism and absorption and discuss where in this physiological pathway many disease states interfere with B12 absorption.
