PROTOZOAN DISEASE: LIFE CYCLE OF MALARIAL PARASITE ; Today we will start our session with disease Malaria. Malaria is a protozoan disease caused by parasite called Plasmodium. It was observed mostly in countries like Africa, Asia and America etc. History: In the year 1880 LAVERAN discovered plasmodium is responsible for malarial disease. In the year 1894 and 1897 MASON gave information about transmission of malaria, but it was confirmed by the experiment s of SIR RONALD ROSS.
Plasmodium: Plasmodium is a protozoan which is unicellular i.e. single cell. It was placed under kingdom protista in five kingdom classification. Plasmodium has several species such as
1.plasmodium falciparum which is more dangerous
2. Plasmodium vivax
3. Plasmodium malaria
4. Plasmodium ovale
It will cause an epidemic i.e. worldwide. Most severe disease in humans is Malaria. Vectors for transmission of malaria: Mosquitoes are responsible for transmission of malaria from person to person by biting sick persons. Mosiquitoes are of two types: Male and Female mosquitoes.
Male mosquitoes are not dangerous because they won’t take blood as their food but they use plant juices as food. Only female mosquitoes are main causative agents for this disease because they need blood as their food. How it transmits: Sick Person Who is suffering with malaria to mosquito feed on sick person By Biting and then transmit it to Healthy persons By biting Life cycle of Malaria:
Plasmodium has two various lifecycles in two different hosts. Cycle 1: Sexual cycle is completed in mosquito act as primary host.Cycle 2 : Asexual cycle is completed in man act as secondary host.
In mosquito: when mosquito bites an infected person, gametocytes will enter into the walls of digestive system.
